Partnering With Faith City Ministries

One of our most important goals here at camandu is to give back to the Amarillo, TX community through partnering with local charity organizations. One such charity is Faith City Ministries, an organization located downtown that provides food, clothing, spiritual ministry, furniture, household items, shelter, employment services, and recovery programs to the men, women, and children of our town.

Faith City Ministries was started in 1951 by Dick and Bea Hogan who began the mission after a call from God. Throughout the years, the mission has grown from a small rented building to Faith City Ministries as it is today. They have been serving downtown Amarillo for over 60 years through the generous donations of individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations. They have never been funded by the government and this is why we at catmandu feel it is so important to support them.

catmandu has partnered with Faith City for over 5 years and throughout that time we held coat and thermal drives every November. This year, however, Faith City actually had a surplus of coats and what they needed was first aid kits to distribute to the homeless. We held a first aid kit drive at our offices and were able to contribute some to their need.

But we’re only one business. We urge all other businesses in Amarillo to consider holding drives or raising money for Faith City or any local charitable organization.

To read more about Faith City Ministries or to donate and volunteer, you can visit their website.

Coffee Matters

What do a boutique coffee roastery and a computer company have in common?

Meticulousness. Excellence. Commitment. Ethics.

cat-man-du is proud to carry Evocation Coffee, a local company who agrees with the cat-man-du philosophy that “everything matters.”

Evocation Coffee Roasters is a micro roastery & espresso bar located in Amarillo, TX. It is the work of husband and wife duo Roman and Amy Leal, who have dedicated their lives to the science of perfectly crafted coffee. The roastery began in 2009 and has since developed a loyal following of both everyday coffee lovers and small to large businesses and organizations.

Walking into Evocation is an experience in itself. At first glance, you’ll notice something different in the no-frills, modern interior and in the sleek machines used by the coffee roasters. This place is unlike other coffee shops. The culture shock you may experience is quickly put to rest by Roman, who greets you like a long time customer. Then, Roman will proceed to tell you about the coffee he is serving that day with passion and wisdom. He will spout off facts about the “tasting notes” (sometimes as strange as bubblegum, popcorn, or butterscotch) or where in the world the coffee was grown, or about the people who grew the coffee.

Then, your coffee will be brewed and no, it won’t come out of a huge, metal machine. Remember, Evocation is about the science of coffee. The creation of your individual cup of coffee looks like an experiment complete with Erlenmeyer flasks and strange glassware.

Once the water (at the precise temperature) melds with the painstakingly-roasted beans, your coffee is served to you in the flask atop a piece of gray slate. The entire process, from growing to roasting to serving to drinking has been well thought-out and designed.

When Evocation caught the eye of cat-man-du CEO and President, Ray Wilson, he decided it would be the only coffee he could serve to his customers in the three cat-man-du locations.

cat-man-du works in the same way as Evocation. We have a commitment to quality in every interaction that customers have with us. We strive to live ethically by giving back to the community through charity organizations and by protecting the environment through our Green initiative. We choose to do business with companies like Evocation Coffee Roasters because they are different and we hope that people choose to do business with us because we are different.

If we put this much attention and care into choosing the coffee we serve, imagine how much attention and care will go into how well we serve you.

“Everything matters.” Including coffee.

Amarillo 34th Street Construction Projected To Last Through January 2015 – Don’t Forget About Local Businesses

It’s summer-time in Amarillo and that means construction projects are taking place all over the city. One of the larger projects is the complete curb-to-curb renovation of 34th street between Coulter & Soncy. Of course there are pros and cons to construction projects of this scope.

First, 34th street has been needing work for some time and that’s understandable. But, the project will be interrupting the flow of traffic down one of the main traffic pipelines on the West side of the city. This project is a huge project and has been projected to last into January of 2015. There have been some local media outlets even suggesting that people avoid 34th street during this time.

The thing about this is, there are many local businesses that are along this route that rely on the patronage of people driving this route. cat-man-du is one of these businesses. We want to first say thank you to all of our customers who have ‘braved’ the construction up until this point. We will continue to be offering our award winning service as always. We also want to let our customers know that there is an alternate route to get to our Amarillo location during the construction. Less than a quarter mile South of 34th street on Soncy, there is a parking lot that leads directly to cat-man-du and McAlister’s Deli.

So, next time your headed to cat-man-du to drop off your computer for diagnostics/repairs, pick up your brand new laptop or tablet, or schedule a business networking/server project, you might want to consider this tiny detour to save you the headache of the 34th Street construction. See below for a map of the detour route.

The Story Behind The Beginning Of cat-man-du Is Centered Around Classic Rock Legend Bob Seger

cat-man-du has been serving Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle with outstanding technical service and computer support for over 10 years, and there’s a reason behind that. When Ray founded the company, he did so to ensure that customer service was a priority as he experienced the lack of it in other tech companies. Nothing was more important to Ray and remains that way to this day.

Having been “in the trenches” when cat-man-du was just a start-up (and still to this day), Ray knew what it took to provide quality service. What better way to get return business than to give customers a “reason” to come back. This has been his goal for cat-man-du since it began (like many tech giants) in his garage.

Even the name of the company has it’s own unique journey on how it all came about. Check it out below.

The Story Of The Name cat-man-du:

Our company founder, Ray Wilson, was driving between Amarillo and Dumas one day while performing computer services as a side business when he decided to start the company. He was searching for a name that would both set the company apart from the many competitors and describe the type of company he wanted to create.

A song from 1975 came on the radio by Bob Seger called “Katmandu” that describes not feeling loved where the person is at currently and wanting to go someplace better. Because Ray had been in the technical industry for so long he knew that most customers were unhappy with the service they receive from computer repair companies and IT companies but that they just didn’t know of any other alternative. It also dawned on him that he could take three commands used in the Linux OS (cat, man and du) and phonetically pay homage to the Bob Seger song.

He went home that night and created the company logo and name. According to Ray “The name is a pinch of fun, a dash of nerdy and a whole lot of Rock ‘n’ Roll on a serving platter that puts our clients first and gives them a place to go and receive the service they deserve but can’t get at our competitors.”
